Any resident of India, who is age 1 or older, is eligible to apply for AADHAAR Card. To apply for AADHAAR Card, the applicant has to fill up an application form. Along with the application form, 3 supporting documents are required. 1 documents each for identity, address and date of birth proof. Where to apply for AADHAAR Card?

Government of India has given Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) the responsibility to implement the AADHAAR system. UIDAI has set up multiple AADHAAR Card enrollment centers across India for this purpose. Most of the centers are temporary (they have a fix open and close date). However, some of the centers are permanent.

Applicants who wish to apply for AADHAAR Card should visit a nearby AADHAAR Card enrollment center. Applicants are however free to apply for AADHAAR Card at any location, anywhere in India. What happens at the AADHAAR Card center?

  • If an applicant has prior online appointment he/she is given priority over others who don't. This will save some waiting time at the center.
  • Applicant is called in and asked to submit the completed application form and supporting documents.
  • The documents Xerox copies are cross verified against their respective originals.
  • The form is checked for completeness and cross verified against submitted documents for correctness.
  • After verification, the original documents are returned back immediately at the center itself.
  • The operator types these demographic information from the application form into the computer. The information is entered in English as well as local language.
  • A photograph is taken using a Web camera.
  • Fingerprints of all 10 fingers are captured using an electronic Fingerprint capturing device.
  • Photo of iris in eyes is taken using an electronic Iris capturing device.
  • Digital signature is captured using an electronic Signature capturing device.
  • Applicant is then asked to verify all the demographic information, that the operator has typed into the system. Any data entry mistake can be corrected right there.
  • Finally an enrollment acknowledgement slip is printed and handed over to the applicant.

When is AADHAAR Card received?

It takes about 30 to 90 days to process an AADHAAR Card application due to strict verification procedures and the backlog. Upon successful processing, an SMS is sent out to the applicant's registered mobile phone. Once the applicant receives the SMS, duplicate copy of AADHAAR Card can be downloaded online, without waiting for the original to be delivered by post.
